We got in touch with Noushin and asked her to be out Client Spotlight of the week!  Read below to find out what kept Noushin motivated during the 40 day challenge!

1. Tell us about yourself.  How did you start working out with DanceFIT?

Hi, my name is Noushin (which is a Persian name) and I have been living in Boston since 2002. I just finished my PhD in biomedical engineering, and got married with two weddings within the past year. I am very much into enjoying simple things in life and beautiful things in nature; photography, cooking, gardening and socializing are a few favorites.

I think I originally found DanceFit while searching for a ballet inspired barre class a few years back, at the time I thought I needed ton of dance background to attend the classes. I think that scared me and I went back to conventional fitness classes which were never what I was looking for. I started looking again in summer 2012, looking for a perfect balance of fitness training and flexibility, with a dance flare and there it was, DanceFit again! This time I started with twice a week in-studio classes with Gina and got hooked ever since.

2.  As a Virtual Client AND In-Studio client, how has working out with DanceFIT changed your workout routine?

I should start by saying, virtual did not sound appealing to me at the beginning! I like group exercises, and I love the energy of in-studio classes, specially when I find instructors I really like! I started the virtual classes this summer when I signed up for the SummerFit challenge in June and July. I was writing my thesis during those two months and realized there was no way I could get to the studio as often as I wanted without losing precious time. It turned out Virtual is actually a lot of fun, and very much complementary to my in-studio workout routine. I don't need to worry about how to add or include flexibility and stretch segments into my routine, it's all incorporated in the workouts and if i need something extra, I just politely request it from my DanceFit instructor.

3.  What songs on your playlist keep you motivated during a workout?

I think any descent upbeat dance music is motivating when accompanied by a good paced exercise routine. Rihanna, lady gaga, Beyonce, all the usual suspects are good, and something like Adele works well for balletFit. I also like the mix of older 90s music, since I grew up in that era :)

 4.  What is your favorite DanceFIT class and why?

I think I like a combination of a lot of them. I love Gina's balletFit and balletFit cardio classes, they are filled with energy! I also like Nicole's balletFit, Laura and Kari's balletFit, barre, and pilates... It's really hard to stick to only few favorites. I think a perfect routine also needs cardio and core, arms and abs, yoga, etc, oh and some fun Zumba.

 5.  Tell our readers what your favorite go-to pre-workout snack is!

My pre-workout snacks, if I remember to have any, will be nuts and dried fruits like almonds and pistachios, dried mulberries, figs, and raisins. Sometimes if I haven't had food I will just make an egg sandwich, have some cheese, or bananas.

6.  What is your best piece of fitness advice or inspiration?

I read an article recently that summed up my view on fitness: "Seeing exercise as a joy and not a utility, as a gift and not a chore, as an opportunity and not an obligation, as a lifestyle and not an event."
I think the joy one gets after a good exercise is not comparable to anything else, another favorite from the article: "The planet looks different from a bike or a pair of skis than it does from a car or an airplane, remembering the smells and bugs and mud and rain and feeling of warm sunshine on your face, those are the moments that make up life" and I add to it the joy of soaking wet after an hour of dance exercise is as good if not better!

Finally, another quote from the article, mostly for those with little girls: "Being strong is empowering. It feels good to be able to carry your own luggage down the stairs if airport escalator is broken, or to have a solid shot at outrunning a stranger should we meet one at dark alley".

7.  What is your FIT fashion?  What do you usually wear for workouts?

There is not much fashion to my Fit fashion these days :) but my favorite outfits would be fitted tank tops and capri yoga pants, or sports bras with something comfortable like a racer back tank that I can move and breath in, as well as look good in it, and I must say I wear a lot of black! Oh and I think I should win more DanceFit tank tops, they are really cute :)

8.  What do you tell your friends and family when they ask about why you love DanceFIT so much?

I tell them it's a love affair :) I am kidding, for me it is something that really makes me happy! I was doing something called bar au sol before moving here in my younger days and when I moved to Boston I got disappointed that I could never find something as good that both me and my body enjoy as much. I am glad I was proven wrong.

9.  Finally, you have been on fire during out FallFIT Challenge.  You were the first one to make it to 30 classes and you have far surpassed that number!  What was your motivation?

I think a good amount my motivation is coming from the DanceFit community, specially those moms with kids who are so dedicated to taking care of their bodies, despite their crazy schedule! I am thinking if they can do it, there is no reason I can't :)

I think my other motivation is just getting fitter, stronger, and more flexible. It really feels great to be able to do longer planks, higher battements, or faster and better looking changements!

Thank you so much Noushin, you are an inspiration and very valued member of our DanceFIT Community!

Congratulations to ALL of our FallFIT members!  You should all be so proud!
