1. Tell us about yourself.
How did you start working out with DanceFIT?
Hi! My name is
Meghan- but everyone calls me Megs. I grew up in Ohio, and went to Saint Mary's
College in Notre Dame, IN where I majored in nursing. I met my husband, Ben, there
during our sophomore year and we got married in 2005 after I completed my
degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Ohio State. Ben is a pilot for the
Navy, and we are currently stationed in Montgomery AL. We have four kids Luke
(7), Drew (5), Keira (4) and Mark 3 months. We also have a dog, Max, who is a
Golden Retriever. When I have a free moment I love to read, drink coffee, watch
college football, shop and spend time with family and friends.
I started working out
with Virtual DanceFit last August. My husband was working on an aircraft
carrier, and was gone a lot. With three kids in school and activities, getting
to a gym was difficult. I have always been a fan of group exercise classes- I
find them fun and are great for motivation. Nicole Prezioso is a college friend
of mine who mentioned on her blog DanceFit classes through Skype. I was
intrigued, and my first class was Laura's Barre Fusion class. I loved the class
and was so sore the next day. I have been hooked ever since! Finally I could do
group exercise classes while the kids slept, and I did not have to rely on my
husband's work schedule to get a workout in!
2. How has working
out with DanceFIT changed your workout routine?
I grew up with a
great role model- my mom. I remember going to her Dancercize classes when I was
growing up, and saw how much she enjoyed it. It was something she made time
for, no matter what. Why? Because it was important to her and made her feel
good. I use the same philosophy now that I am a mom. I need to take time out for
me, because in the end i will be happier and better person for it. I have
always used exercise as a stress relief during some pretty challenging times
the last several years. Thanks to
DanceFit, exercise continues to do that, and I am able to fit it into my
schedule easily without sacrificing my time with the kids. I get my workout
time every evening by just rolling out my yoga mat and turning on the computer.
So easy and no excuses.
3. What songs on your
playlist keep you motivated during a workout?
My playlist these days are usually geared towards the kids,
think CARS, Winnie the Pooh or any Disney princess sound track. When I do get
the chance to listen to my music I like listening to Black Eye Peas, Mumford
& Sons, any top 40 song or listening to an old college favorite Bon Jovi's
"Living on A Prayer" while I workout.
4. What is your
favorite DanceFIT class and why?
Always a toughie-
because I have taken all of them and love them all! My three favorite are:
1. Barre Fusion- The class that
started it all. I love all the leg work, and Laura's ab work is always challenging.
2. Ballet Barre- I think this class should be called Barre
Cardio, because after each class I am always dripping with sweat. Kari has
found some leg muscles, I did not even know I had!
3. Pilates with Resistance tubing-
I have always loved Pilates, and it is great at building lean muscle. Plus Gina
is such a great instructor- she is always smiling and encouraging us to push
through "just one more rep". I always feel taller and leaner after
this class.
5. Tell our readers
what your favorite go-to pre-workout snack is!
I try to get some
protein in before my workout- apple slices with PB for example. I also have
become a smoothie fan, and like to make all different kinds. It it is an easy
portable way for me to get my fruits and veggies with little effort.
6. What is your best
piece of fitness advice or inspiration?
I am now a mom of
four, and my view of my body has changed. It has done some pretty amazing
things! I may never have a six pack, and I am so okay with that! I do not own a
scale, and follow the 80/20 rule. Life is too short- don't beat yourself up if
you have one bad day. Go ahead and have that ice cream with sprinkles! Wake up
the next day, load up on veggies and water, and get your heart pumping.
I am trying to be a
good role model for my kids. I want our boys to know that women can be strong
and fit, and I want our daughter to know that self esteem comes with a positive
body image no matter what the body type. Hopefully by them seeing me workout
and eating right, these healthy habits will be passed on to them.
7. What is your FIT
fashion? What do you usually wear for
workouts?
I love a colorful top
and yoga capris to workout. I feel like if you look good, you feel good! I have
found the C9 brand at Target to be great, and it is at a reasonable price. I
also like GAPFit brand when I can find them on sale.
8. What do you tell
your friends and family when they ask about why you love DanceFIT so much?
I became pregnant with our fourth child last October. Thanks
to DanceFit I worked out throughout my pregnancy. I even took Gina's BalletFit
class the morning I went into labor. For the first time, I did not feel being
pregnant hindered my ability to get a good workout in. All the instructors were
so motivating and great about giving me modifications. Our littlest one is now
three months old, and I am back to wearing most of my pre-pregnancy clothes. I
feel great, I feel energized and motivated thanks to all my virtual workout
friends. The best about DanceFit? No matter where our next duty station- I
don't have to say goodbye to a fitness routine/community that I love!
It was such a pleasure to feature you this week Megs! Thank you!
